Hi, my wife has been telling me to get bike accident insurance and life insurance since we have children now. Should I be going to 保険の窓口 (our local one) or is that a bad place to go? For example, I’m afraid of being referred to services where they get the best kickback instead of the best insurance for my situation. Is there a recommended insurance service that this sub knows?
Thank you!
PS: Maybe my wife is planning to kill me via a bicycle accident

In a country like Japan 生命保険 is super unnecessary imo. Some bike insurance comes with death benefits which I think would be enough. Just my thoughts though.
Edit: sorry guys I got 生命保険 and 医療保険 mixed up so a lot of what I wrote probably doesn’t fit with this post.
I still don’t have or plan on getting either though. You might as well just invest your money. And if you unexpectedly die let’s be real, your dependent partner is probably getting remarried a couple of years down the road anyways.
I cannot help you with the life insurance, as I am not really familiar with it (but should look into it, too), but depending on where you live being enrolled in a bicycle insurance is mandatory. This article is in Japanese but you will find other pages:

Check an official page from your prefecture and you should know if it is a must have or not. But anyway, for these you can easily use any kind of online insurance, I for example use Rakuten Insurances to be enrolled in the bicycle insurance.
IMO the best insurance rates you’ll get are going to be from online insurance providers rather than your local shops. Because it’s all online, everyone can see everyone else’s rates and that keeps everything relatively competitive.
Kakaku has insurance comparisons for major online insurance plans.
My wife just used 保険の窓口 to reinsure her car and she saved heaps of money on the premiums. I have no idea what the actual quality of the insurance will be if she has to make a claim, but it was definitely a lot cheaper than her existing provider.
