Welcome to NJPW. Our champion is Jon Moxley (fka Dean Ambrose). The story is that he’s the GOAT and the Ace of the World that’s why he deserves to win the top championship. Who knows if his protégé in Shota Umino is going to surpass him.
Our secondary champion is Nic Nemeth (fka Dolph Ziggler) and the story for him is that Fit Finlay’s son attacked him so he’s now become a Wanted Man.
Oh, and before that, I guess Naito was champ for a while and SANADA was a champ for like a year. And former NJPW main eventers like Jay White, Will Ospreay, and Kazuchika Okada left.
Also, Hiroshi Tanahashi is now our president and has put himself over in title matches twice, since.
I did a little [breakdown](https://www.reddit.com/r/njpw/s/YOuHIhJboK) of all the factions a month ago that might be helpful to you. The only thing that’s changed since then is Alex Coughlin has confirmed he’s retired and Jack Perry joined House of Torture (and he’s likely headed back to AEW soon, though he might stay a member of the faction until Forbidden Door).
In general a lot of the storylines kind of rotate with every tour/every couple tours. They’re starting a new tour in a few days, so it’s not a bad time to be jumping in. If you want to back watch to catch up with the longer-term stories; the annual Wrestle Kingdom show (on January 4th) is like WrestleMania, in that it’s essentially the end of the last“season” and beginning of the new one. So start from there and work forwards (you can skip the Fantasticamania/CMLL tour, it’s basically non-canon).

We also have a [New Fan Guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/njpw/comments/x3ck26/njpw_new_fan_guide_and_faq_september_2022/) for more technical stuff like how the schedule works and how/what to watch.
