Had initially wanted to add my review to an existing thread but unfortunately the thread has since been archived.
Sharing my experience here with the hope that it can help a future traveler / someone considering the apartment.
My thoughts on Presso Komagome itself
Pros :-
* Central location. It’s a 2 min walk to the Komagome station on the Yamanote line. While there are not many points of interest in the vicinity, there is a decent number of shops / restaurants nearby. There’s a small supermarket (Maruetsu Petit) and a couple of konbinis within a 3-5 min walking radius. Rikugien Gardens is about a 15-min walk away. The nearby chinese restaurant was a favorite of mine while I was there.
* At the time I rented it, it offered decent value. Paid 107,000 yen for a month’s stay (all in, including futon rental, utilities, building maintenance fees, moving out cleaning fees).
* Enough space for solo stay. I wouldn’t recommend for two people.
* Comes with the usual complement appliances that one would need, i.e. kettle, electric stove, microwave / oven, small fridge, as well as pots and pans, dishes and cutleries. It didn’t have a vacuum cleaner though but I believe there is a communal one that one can borrow. Wiper mop stick included for basic cleaning. You will need to buy your own cleaning supplies.
* Washing machine and dryer at a communal area. 200 yen to operate the washing machine and 100 yen for one dryer cycle (you would need a min of 2 cycles to get your clothes dry). Bring your own detergent. No place to air dry your clothes.
* Reasonably clean, although the room doesn’t look as nice as the photos. Bed was comfy and on the soft side.
* Mostly occupied by foreigners / travelers, thus, you may meet others like yourself and there is less likelihood you will end up offending any locals staying there.
Cons :-
* Noisy as it’s too close to the train station and most of the apartments have their windows facing the station. Constant drone of trains passing through and station announcements. Hopefully, you get used to it after awhile.
* Noisy old air-conditioner / heater. It’s loud and for most units, it’s right next to the bed. I consider myself a heavy sleeper, and I needed to plug my ears whenever I switch it on. Checked with management and was told it’s “normal” for it to be so loud.
My thoughts on Modern Living
* They may have been really busy due to it being a peak period but I have to say that while my interactions with them have been amiable, they are not particularly responsive nor professional. Emails / messages take about 2-3 days on average to get a reply, thus, not great if you need to contact them in short order.
* On my day of arrival, they forgot about it. I had to call all the phone numbers listed to get hold of someone in order to check-in. There was separate instance where the staff was going to show up to pass me some paperwork, and again he forgot and had to reschedule.
Conclusion; would I stay there again? It’s not going to be my first choice but yeah, all things considered, I wouldn’t mind staying there again. I would look around for alternatives though, but there are not many small apartments in this price range that is so centrally located.
