Commonly used slang amongst Japanese teens?

Since I’m young I feel weird asking this question, almost like a middle aged American trying to wrap their mind around what pushin 🅿️ is, but considering I have no contacts in Japan I wanted to see if anyone on this sub knows some high school age kids that use zoomer-Japanese speech/texting they can display here for all of our use. Thanks in advance, might be a tall order lol. Anything that comes to mind for slang is fine.

  1. I feel the same. Do they still use やばい? Lol
I’ve seen w used for 笑う in chat rooms.
Find some Japanese gamers on Twitch and you’ll be bombarded by emoticon expressions and stamps 😅

  2. Not sure if it’s quite what you’re looking for, but my Japanese friend told me once that old people in Japan complain that the words かわいい, めちゃ and やばい are used way too much by young people, and I definitely wouldn’t have learned the latter 2 from my middle-aged professors

  3. Hard to put it all in one post, but maybe going through 5chan would give you some text examples?

  4. ヤバい is still said at least by university age but it’s probably on its way out. Find a high school teacher to ask. And wtf is pushin 🅿️?

  5. – ちょう(超)
    – ごく(極)
    – ど

    For strong emphasis

    And:

    – ワロタ
    – おもろい
    – 受ける
    – 大草原
    – やる(as an adjective)

Feel common. But idk, i’m no teen.

  6. There are different TV programs that pick up the latest words peeps are using in HS. Ōsama’s Brunch to name one. It’s not always but doing a quick JP Google Search may help you find an episode list of past episodes that have them.

Then you can use a VPN to set yourself in Japan and check TVer ( is it tver?) which had a lot of past transmissions of JP tv programs.

  7. Just talk about yourself in the 3rd person constantly. Seems to be the young, especially female, thing to do.

  8. I feel like えぐい has overtaken やばい , but I could be wrong. I hear がちで a lot too, as in “very”.

  9. Some may be old but the ones I liked:

フロリダ : leaving the chat for a while because one is going to take a bath 風呂 離脱→ ふろ りだつ → ふろりだ → フロリダ

り or りょ: short for 了解

This one is old but 激おこぷんぷん丸 meaning being angry. this has like 6 levels, starting from おこ and resulting in カム着火ファイヤー

やばたにえん : slang for やばい. Sort of sounds like 永谷園, a famous ochazuke manufacturer

エモい: emotional. This one is the hardest to explain, pretty much the same as もののあはれin my understanding but not confident.

ぴえん🥺 : meaning sort of sad but not that sad to cry, in a little joking way? Next level is ぴえん超えてぱおん

Lots of the young people language or JK語 is either abbreviating a already existing word or the sound of it is just kawaii or funny.

  10. didn’t see this one, but my friends (late teens early 20s) use 激アツ (gekiatsu) a lot (basically means “fucking awesome)
