Usage of お大事に

Hi,

I hope my question isn’t too much about asking for a translation. It’s more about finding a good reply to a message from a friend of mine. I’m not sure whether or not to use お大事に in this case as it may be too serious, and my friend sounds like he is no longer sick. However, I do want to say something like I am sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well.

I know this kind of thing can be very different to express in Japanese without making too big of a deal about it, or using the wrong phrase like if your friend is terribly ill or something.

Here is a part of the message from my friend:

気分すぐれず寝込んでました。連絡遅れてごめんなさい。多分コロナ後遺症だったんでしょうね。次回 来日の際はキットキットお会いしたく思います。ご連絡ください。

Any input is appreciated!
