English teachers what is your current salary/working years?

An aquintance of mine said that he’ll get tons of money by teaching English at private schools/kindergardens. (Starter salary around ~350.000yen)

So I am wondering, is it true?

Do any of you get that much? And how is the work environment there?

  1. I wouldn’t call a living wage “tons of money” but yes, a seishain position would pay about that much.

  2. I usually see 170,000-230,000 as entry level salary on job posts. English teaching jobs typically don’t go much higher. Rarely you’ll get lucky and find one that offers up to 300,000 a month.

  3. That would be about the ceiling unless you got tenure at a university, but you would need a PHD for that.

  4. I had a friend who got about that much, before she burned out. She was working pretty hard and 6 to 8 classes per day mon to sat was common.

  5. Working at a private high school earning around 6 million including bonuses. A decent salary is definitely achievable, but expect to do a lot more than just teaching.

It’s high stress just like being a teacher in any country. I’m already thinking of an exit plan.

  6. 11 years, 270,000 at nationwide famous company

    Edit: it’s horrible

I’m making a lot compared to other schools
    (As low as 180,000)
