Hakone: how important to stay in town?

Hi all, I’ll be traveling to Japan for business next week and was hoping to spend the weekend after in Hakone.

I got hotel reservations at Mizunoto, which looks really beautiful. However, I’ve since done additional research and had it recommended that I stay closer to Gora, since Mizunoto is slightly out of the way. I’m also looking at Hotel Marroad Hakone, which appears to be more centrally located.

How important is it to stay closer to Gora versus being slightly out of the way? Does anyone have experiences with either Mizunoto or Hotel Marroad Hakone? Would appreciate any insights to help me make a decision.
