My wife and I are purchasing a mansion in Tokyo. As far as I can tell, we are suitable candidates for the loan we are applying for, it is well within our salary range (even just mine would be ok) and we are providing 1/3 of the purchase amount as a down payment. We were preliminarily approved for a mortgage at UFJ, where we both have had our main accounts for more than 10 years. However we got a call today to explain the process, and the representative said that she did not think I would be able to understand all of the particulars of the contract, and for that reason we would be rejected. For info, I have lived here for 12 years, PR visa, æ£ç¤¾å“¡, wife is japanese, I have passed N3 level, have come close to passing N2 but not there yet.
Has this happened to anyone else? We have a bilingual financial planner, she has not heard of it.
