Hello all, I just want to make sure I’m not assuming something that is not correct before making plans.
With regards to various parks, gardens, palaces, temples and shrines, can you simply walk up to the grounds and start roaming (on designated paths)? Like, if you wanted to go for a nice walk and the Imperial Palace is nearby, or Ueno Park, or the Botanical Gardens, would they have paths that are free for public to access? Or would there be a fee, or a large portion not for public use, etc.? Does what’s typical usually differ between prefectures?
I wouldn’t mind paying fees in some cases, but I just wouldn’t want to be surprised in those cases. However, I of course wouldn’t go to certain types of greenery/landscapes if I knew there wouldn’t be paths for public use.
Since I’m asking, anything you would typically do at a park be frowned upon (like bringing food/drink to picnic, for example)? I’d assume public parks and potentially gardens are more flexible than Palace expectations on this?
Greatly appreciate any wisdom you can depart.
