We are looking at spending a few days in Hokkaido next February and want to spend at least one night in an onsen resort. We are spending the bulk of our time in and around Sapporo so we’ve been looking at Jozankei and Noboribetsu but are also interested in traveling a bit further if it’s worth it (don’t know many other spots but have been looking at Sounkyo). Ideally we would like something a bit more boutiquey and Japanese looking (we’d really like an in-room outdoor onsen if we can).
Which Hokkaido onsen town would you recommend and does anyone have any recommendations for any specific onsen hotels/ ryokans that sort of meet this description that won’t completely destroy the bank?
