I just want to make sure I don't overlook something that will bite me later on when I apply for a COE for another visa to come back in the future.
Let's say my apartment move out date will be July 31st and my flight date out of Japan is on August 15th. The following would be my plan of action:
- Notify the real estate company of my move out date in the last week of June to give enough time for the one month notice.
- Get rid of all of my stuff/trash properly.
- Notify the utilities of my move out date 2 weeks before move out date.
- Notify the company I work for of my contract termination.
- I'm an ALT so I'm assuming there would be no issue of submitting my notice to quit on my move out date (July 31st) since it's going to be summer break anyway and I won't be expected to work for the next month?
As far as I know, my taxes and pension have been/are deducted automatically from my paycheck each month by the company I work for so I'm assuming I don't have to worry about back taxes or pension payments. Potentially important detail: it's my first year in Japan as well.
After my apartment move out date, I'm also planning to give myself a week or 2 of a holiday before my official departure date from Japan, during which time I'll stay in a short-term accommodation. Is that okay?
Do I have to declare anything to immigration when I submit my notice to quit to the company if I'm going to be leaving 2 weeks after that anyway?
Can I just "be on holiday" for the 2 weeks, then just leave without any special declaration at the airport? Or maybe I just have to give some sort of notification at the airport when I leave and that's enough? The visa just expires on its own or something?
Thank you 🙏🏼
