I've been looking at the acts that are coming to Tokyo (specifically, as I live here) over the past year and a half or so since corona has really lifted, and it seems there is a dearth of acts, big or small coming over. Is it a mixture of the weak yen making it not worth the bands's while; basically 4 years of 0 interaction with promoters and bookers; lack of interest? AAA acts of course come over: QotSA, Taytay, Iron Maiden coming, Suede/Manics double bill last year (arguably AAA, but for me they are).
I've been itching to see some live music, and I've seen Interpol and Pixies since Japan basically reopened, but I do miss smaller bands coming over, though I guess it's harder to convince people to pay 8000 yen to see what would be a 30 quid/40 dollar gig overseas. Anyone in the biz, or has a better idea, know what's going on? Is it just too difficult to get bands to justify the cost of doing 2, 3, maybe 4 gigs on the road in Japan and hoping fans will shell out?
