I’ve done a reasonable amount of research but was hoping to get some help.
Obviously I know you can reserve nobi-nobi spaces online, but apparently you can’t reserve rooms online. I’d rather not leave it totally to chance and end up high and dry with everything booked when I eventually make it to Japan.
TLDR: are there any services or just random people who you can “hire” to reserve a spot for you?

You can reserve the rooms online. They are all actually by reservation only. Reservation opens 1 month before so you won’t see anything before that. The rooms get filled quickly once it opens especially if it’s weekends or public holiday so you have to do it on the first day of booking.
Sunrise online reservation is through the JR West website (e5489 net), which is probably Japanese only but you can use Google Translate to navigate.
