Replace broken JR (East) Pass ticket?

We're travelling through Tohoku right now with the JR East Tohoku / South Hokkaido Pass.

Unfortunately, it appears that the magnetic are very sensible to credit cards nearby in the wallet:

One of the ticket isn't accepted at any Shinkansen gates (while regular JR gates continue to work)

The other one isn't accepted anywhere. So I always have to used the manned gate.

Due to this malfunction, we also lost the ability to reserve / pick-up seats at ticket machines. It's quite annoying to line up 10+ minutes for a seat reservation.

Is there any option to get a replacement ticket? We have already inquired at two JR ticket offices / JR pass pick up counters. They confirmed that at least one of the tickets is broken. But according to them it's not possible to get it reissued.

I believe that there should be a (bureaucratic) process, with the staff unwilling to do it. Is it worth pursuing it?
