I am currently staying in japan as a solo traveler for 55 days and this is my day 19 update on my spending. This is to give you a rough idea of how much it costs to be in Japan per day.
Note that this is my total and average spending. Some days were much more expensive than others because of expensive activities that can be left out. I will give another update in a few weeks because I won't be spending a lot the following time.
My spending categories are accomodation (in my case almost only capsule hotels because they're very cheap), food (food, snacks and drinks that i got from stores), restaurants (eating out), transport (metro and bus), shopping (souvenirs and necessary items) and other cash payments (payments that i honestly don't know where every penny went to)
So here is my spending (in ¥ and €):
Accomodation:
47.274Â¥ –> 2.488Â¥/day
or
276,91€ –> 14,57€/day
Food:
13.624Â¥ –> 717Â¥/day
or
79,80€ –> 4,20€/day
Restaurants:
15.010Â¥ –> 790Â¥/day
or
87,92€ –> 4,63€/day
Transport:
21.286Â¥ –> 1.120Â¥/day
or
124,68€ –> 6,56€/day
Shopping:
8.769Â¥ –> 461Â¥/day
or
51,36€ –> 2,70€/day
Other cash payments:
62.513Â¥ –> 3.290Â¥/day
or
366,17€ –> 19,27€/day
Total:
168.476Â¥ –> 8.867Â¥/day
or
986,86€ –> 51,94€/day
Again there were some quite expensive activities that were nice to do but can definitely be left out. Most activities like temples or museums and others are really cheap or even free. I still recommend doing your own research because your spending also depends on where you sleep. This is just my spending and I will give another update in a few weeks.
Edit: if you have questions about my living conditions feel free to ask
