What is this?

Hi everyone! Not sure if this is the right place, but can anyone here help me identify this? Appreciate any help!

  1. The label says “Spicy-seeming and not really spicy, just a little spicy chili oil.”

The word I’m translating here as “chili oil” is *raayu*, which refers to oil (sometimes sesame oil) infused with chili.

  2. I love it, and the title is hilarious. I often recommend it to friends. It’s great on cold tofu.

  3. Delicious but horrendously high in calories cause of the straight oils… one of the things in my life that I had to begrudgingly give up with serious sadness in my heart.

  4. Garlic chili oil. Stuffs DELICIOUS, just scoop all on some rice & eggs.

  5. They sell it at our grocery store here in Oakland. My kids say “wouldn’t this be better with a little S&B?” Kind of a chile crisp but not spicy like the Chinese brands.

  6. Just brought back many jars from Japan. It’s findable in the U.S. but 5x the price

  7. One of my colleagues gave me this. Her house favourite, we really like it but it’s not that spicy.

  8. This particular brand is really good. It has actual pieces of garlic in it and they’re actually crunchy – it has a really clean flavor.

  9. That is Momoya brand’s Japanese-style Garlic Chili crunch, not very spicy. I prefer S&B Crunchy Garlic with Chili Oil. I find the overall flavor to be more balanced, and it contains more solids to oils than the Momoya version.

  10. Ryu. Put a few drops with even parts soy sauce and vinegar and now you’ve got a dip for your gyoza.

  11. CRUNCHY garlic chili oil. You can use it like a dip for shabu and sukiyaki, just on top of your rice for a snack or if you’re a poor neet. Also, you can easily get it in the states~~

  12. All answers here are correct, but to be more specific it is “Taberu Rayu” or edible chili oil, with pieces of pepper flakes, garclic, shallots, and sometimes other things inside that you eat along with the oil.

Very tasty on basically anything lol

  13. It’s my favorite! Unlike some other chill oils, it has these crunchy garlic flakes you can sprinkle on anything from eggs to pasta.
