N3 to N2 in 1 year of language school?

See title

It's becoming clear to me that my N3 qualification isn't getting me the tech jobs I was hoping for, so I'd like to get N2 and open up far more opportunities.

My initial idea was to attend language school for a year and take the N2 test afterwards.

The problem with this plan is if I fail to become N2/Business level Japanese after a year I'll likely be in a worse position than before – apparently Japan has some particularly bad prejudice against hiring people who've been unemployed for a long period of time.

Has anyone managed to make the jump from N3 to N2 with just 1 year of school study? How much time was needed outside of class to get the N2? Was the class itself even worth it?

Cheers
