Genuinely didn't think this would happen to me. Posting on throwaway as I'm pretty embarrassed about it.
Was in Takamatsu in Shikoku just over a week ago. Nice small city, has a bit of a nightlife but nothing like Tokyo. Anyway I was visiting on my own for a few days and I went wandering for a drink. Feel like an idiot but I followed a tout into a bar thinking that because it's not a big touristy city, it's fine.
Don't remember much else apart from ending up on a bench outside with a pounding head. My wallet was empty (but only about 20000 yen, and I left my bank cards in the hotel, so could have been worse).
Surprisingly, my phone was still in my pocket.
Probably should have gone to the police but I couldn't remember where it was, or what anyone looked like. Felt pretty shaken the next day and I've definitely learned a valuable lesson.
So yeah, don't be an idiot like me and drop your guard because you're in a small city.
