I will be moving to Japan later this year (for higher education). I have a friend who is already staying in the same city and he has rented a place recently.
However, at the time I reach Japan, my friend will not be in Japan since he will be visiting his family, and he will be coming back to Japan about 2-3 days after I reach Japan. I was planning to stay a night at a hotel since I will be allotted my hostel room (at the university) only on the day after I arrive since that's when they will allow all occupants to move in.
My friend suggested that I borrow the keys to his rented apartment and spend the night there, and that he would collect the keys from me when he reached Japan.
Would it cause me any issues?
For context: My friend rented the apartment through an agency and the University signed on as a guarantor.
