Is there a good place to donate clothing? I have been dropping weight since moving here, and have some nice stuff that I would like to donate. Issue is that they might be too big for most Japanese (think US size XL).
H&M, they give you a 500 yen coupon for each bag of clothes you donate.
Clothing donation is not a thing due to cost except for places like Uniqlo and H&M. Uniqlo only accepts their own but H&M takes in any brand and gives you a coupon. I’ve been dropping my (not so nice) US size XL stuff in a donation box at a place in Hatagaya (Shibuya-ku) since it’s accessible 24-7.
Would be nice to get a coupon or some money but since I have neither shopped at H&M nor want to bother taking my stuff down to Shimo-Kitazawa or Koenji to get judged/rejected, it’s the easiest option.
You might want to try your local expat FB pages. When I give away anything there it tends to be gone in a day or so!
King family accepts old clothes and pays by kg depending on the quality of the clothing. They also recycle old ones.
Congrats on the weight loss!!
If you Google 古着 寄付 送料無料 (used clothes, donation, free shipping), then quite a few places come up. I used such a place years ago but can’t remember which one.
Try Facebook pages or maybe there’s a BookOff or some kind of second hand shops in your area that’ll take them.
