Hello everyone,
I am moving to Tokyo this summer for 10months and have been wondering several questions regarding cycling in Tokyo.
I already have been to Tokyo on several occasions, used docomo and hellocycling cycles over there, and consider cycling in Tokyo ok and safe.
However, since I am moving for 10 months, I am considering getting my own bicycle and have the following questions:
Parking: Places I have been considering for accommodation have a place to park. Work will also have a parking spot. However, I am used to cycle to everywhere. assume parking is prohibited in most streets
- How "easy" is it to park a bicycle?
- How Expansive is it?
- are there monthly/yearly plans to park (possibly like chains of parkings that could be used to park in several main areas) ?
Commuting: I assume commuting with a regular bicycle is a definitive no. But is it ok to commute with a foldable bicycle (e.g. brompton)? My impression is that it would fit most overhead racks in local trains, but I am not sure.
Edit: I give a bit of context with two typical use-cases.
- Work is based around ueno (parking ok). I am likely to live near ikebukuro (parking ok). I am planning to go to the bouldering gym b-pump akihabara several evenings a week. Should it be ok/easy for me to park near b-pump akihabara in weekdays evenings (like from 19h30 to 22h or so?)
- I plan to enjoy a walk in Shibuya on a saturday. Will it be easy-ish/ok for me to find a park not far shibuya station (but really any side of it) on a saturday morning?
Thanks in advance for your replies
