Can anyone ID this fish for me? I got a sashimi platter for dinner tonight. I like it, but idk what it is haha

  1. It could be hamachi or amberjack with the bloodline removed (both usually have a more pronounced bloodline), but it was a very small hamachi/amberjack if that’s the case. Usually these fish are split between the piece off the back of the fish and the piece off the belly side because it’s a much larger fish. The sashimi in your photo has both the meat from the backside (top half), and the belly (bottom half). Another possibility is stripped bass, but it looks like this has more fat on it than stripped bass would normally have so I’m stumped.

  2. My first guess would’ve been red snapper but looks like everyone else says yellowtail, yeh so.

  3. Newbie here–if it is yellowtail or whatever, why does it look like that? I’m not super familiar with that sort of fish, so what’s the white strings?

  4. As others have said it looks like hamachi or yellowtail. I’m leaning towards the latter
