This summer I'm going 1 week in Okinawa from Osaka and I would be very happy to know the best places that I can visit and the best restaurants in Okinawa where they serve Okinawan food, not "Japanese" food. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
You can’t get much more authentic than a small restaurant close to Rycom Mall called Irabu Kana. It has older Ryukyu dishes as well as sea snake and sea snake eggs. You have to call to make a reservation. http://irabu-kana.com/
Kinpaginpa is a great place in the middle section of the island; the menu is like 99.9% traditional Okinawan cuisine. It’s also very delicious; I’ve been there before and very much recommend.
I shit you not Blue Seal’s Chinsuko Ice Cream is a really good dessert and also the A&W in Okinawa hits wayyyy different.
Definitely hit up any Okinawa Taco Rice shop. It’s cheap, quick, and their take on it is good. No, it’s nothing like Mexico, Cali, or Texas style Tacos, but it’s good in it’s own right.
The famous one is King Tacos, there are a few around the island.
Tacos-Ya, i think tastes better, I love their taco sticks. Naha, Kokusai St, Sunabe.
Rulerz, it’s a different taste than the other two, a little greasy, but ok. Naha and Ginowan (Ojana)
Borrachos, in Naha near Kokusai street is probably the most authentic style Tacos/burritos on island.
Honestly, Kokusai street is super popular for tourists for a reason, it has everything, tons of Okinawan cuisine and other foods. You kind of have to go through there.
Izakaya called Ugokumachi, Ryudai east exit location
I like Heiwa dori street food. Some good soba there if you look.
