Please help! For context, I'm a Canadian citizen with a BA in Arts and BA in Education, Ontario Certified Teacher, (29f) seeking advice on teaching in Japan, with 4-5 years of teaching experience in a board teaching high school, an international private school, I was an Au Pair and summer camp lead in Europe. Currently, I'm working in higher education in Communications in Toronto and would like to live/work abroad. I would like to try teaching in Japan for 1-2 years.
Should I complete my TELF or CELTA? 120hours or 150hours. Does 150hours pay more? If so, where should I take the courses? I would need at my own pace and virtual. Once I complete the cerificate, where do I apply for jobs? Where and what schools do people recommend? I prefer living a city but not too busy, sightseeing, hiking, good food, culture and learning about history and the arts. I dont really like touristy areas. I'm hoping at least minimum $60,000 CDN, if possible. With this in mind, what is the reality of teaching assistants, homeroom teachers or universities. If I dont make too much teaching, could I offer tutoring as well? What does work-life balance look like? Do they support with accommodations or transportations? Is it safe?
Anything would be helpful. Thank you.
