part of my trip to Japan that i'm planning involves a few areas that seem to be a bit harder to get to with buses or trains and my friend said we should rent a car for a few days.
the areas we plan on visiting for that duration are
Hakone -> Fuji -> Matsumoto -> Kamikochi -> Takayama -> Shirakawa-go and return the car in Kanazawa afterwards.
so my question is if a car is really needed for this kind of trip (around a week long for these parts) or could we do it with public transportation comfortably?

It can require a bit more planning with the bus/train schedule, but all these places are accessible by public transport.
