During the morning commute In Tokyo I stopped for a pedestrian crossing the road at a crosswalk, once they crossed I pressed on the accelerator and suddenly a cyclist on the sidewalk coming from my rear left swerved in front of my vehicle to also make the crosswalk and I had to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision. In this situation what would have happened if I had not stopped in time? I would be at fault because I was in a car correct?
Edit: there is no light at this particular crosswalk.
