Is it feasible to avoid Japan’s public transportation?

I go to Japan 1 month from now and one of the biggest ways I’ve planned to get around is to “Uber” to the places I wanna go, or walk if it’s in decent walking distance.

I want to avoid using their train/bullet system due to never ever using any kind of transportation that way and the very idea of it is confusing as hell to me.

For context I’m an American and unfortunately live in a place that has the WORST public transportation. The only way to get around is to drive yourself, or if you’re in the city is to Uber. I’ve never had to use any subway, bus, or train to get by because it was never available (I guess train and subway is the same thing??).

I’ve already downloaded DiDi and GO in anticipation (already have Uber) but I’m concerned about my expectations of this being successful. Will this be waaay too expensive? Is this ideal or should I invest the time I have now to understand how their public transportation works??
