Living and working in Osaka

Hey everyone, this is going to be a long message, so consider yourselves warned. I really want to travel to Osaka next autumn. I plan to stay and work there for a year, but I don't yet know how to make it happen. Figuring out everything from housing and work to visas on my own seems like an enormous challenge.

On top of that, I feel like the odds are against me. I'm from Denmark, a non-native English-speaking country, I'll be just 19 when I go, I don't have a TEFL certificate, and I've never lived on my own before.

My current plan is to work as an English teacher and live in a share house. As a side project, I'd love to start a YouTube channel to share my experiences and motivate myself to explore Japanese culture.

My biggest worries are that I won't be able to find a job or housing and will struggle with all the minor things, like getting a Japanese bank account. I can't join the JET Program since I'm from Denmark, and the only real program available to me is a Danish one that seems okay but not nearly as exciting as going solo.

The goal of this trip is to figure out who I am and what I want to do in life. To achieve this, I need to step out of my comfort zone and live in a completely new environment. Another major part of the trip is to have time for the YouTube channel, as I want to travel the world after going to Osaka and hopefully the channel would be able to cover some of the costs. Thanks for reading along 😊.

Dear regards Nicolai from Denmark
