  1. I just moved to Japan i drank a lot of carbonated water back home like bubly. Does Japan have a carbonated water brand? Preferably with no sugar

  2. I know there was a question regarding having tattoos at a workplace last week but I wanna chime in more details about my own situation – an IT student currently studying in Japan and planning to work in japan in the future. one of my fav tattoo artist is coming to town and I was planning on doing a small tattoo on my upper arm (not visible 95% of the time) but reading posts about the risk is making me second guess.
Although people have said it doesn’t matter if I’m working in a non-japanese, english, IT role, I’m still skeptical if i should go ahead with the tattoo? What are your opinions? (of it affecting my uni life and future job prospects)

  3. I visited Saiho-ji (Nippa 新羽) yesterday since I wanted to buy their spider lily goshuincho, but it seems that it was closed. Was it because it’s Sunday? I checked their website but it says they’re usually closed on Wednesdays. Any input from someone who’s been there would help. Thanks!

  4. When buying used fridges and washing machines from Hard-off, can I carry them with a regular car? Say, a Sienta or some other MPV?

I mean it should fit in, but I heard that washing machines has to be transported upright.

Do I rent a kei truck instead? Is there a law that states that every cargo on the trunk has to be secured with straps and stuff?

Moving apartments next month but the new place doesn’t come with any appliances.

  5. keio/shinjuku line has one train with individual seats instead of bench, but same layout, and neutral color theme inside (that’s the best i can describe it lol). why does it smell like the animal tent at the circus? like musty moldy hay with a hint of sweat and excrement? none of the other trains smell like that, just the one…

  6. Do people actually care about the JLPT?

I’m aware it’s useful as a tool to evaluate your own abilities and give your something to study for.

And I’m aware it’s the “self addressed n3” meme

But I’ve been seeing people here reference it as something actually used by schools and employers.

I’ve never taken the JLPT in my life. Not once has anybody asked my JLPT level. I have been here for a decade. I’ve worked at several companies and interviewed with many more. Never has JLPT been mentioned. I am fairly successful in my field, all of my roles have used japanese, some exclusively japanese.

I’ve also been conducting interviews for companies for at least four years and have never once asked about a candidates JLPT level, though I do see it on a lot of resumes. But why? Is my experience uncommon, or is JLPT from a professional perspective completely irrelevant?
