While we will be spending the most time in Tokyo and a few days in Kyoto, I am taking a 1 day trip to Hanamaki up in Iwate. I am going there as it is the home town of fairy tale author, poet, teacher and geologist Kenji Miyazawa. My plan is to leave very early in the morning to take the Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to the Shin Hanamaki and come back in the evening. I will spend 30 minutes walking to the Wildcat House for dessert followed by the Kenji Miyazawa Museum, the Ihatov Center, and the Fairytale Village. Has anyone been to any of these locations and if so, how much time did you spend? I have about 6 or 7 hours before I have to return. Having an idea would potentially free me up for something else while I am there. On that note, I am open to any suggestions for worthwhile sites to visit. I know this is a long shot considering Hanamaki isn't much of a tourist spot for foreigners and Miyazawa's obscurity to Westerners but you never know if you don't ask.
