I don't think this counts as a translation question; I'm not asking for the meanings of these words, I'm just asking why the seem to have two different spellings.
It seems you can end foods such as okonomiyaki, takoyaki and sukiyaki with either 焼き or just 焼. Why is that? For example, I've seen both 蛸焼き and 蛸焼. Is 蛸焼 just an abbreviation or something? Like how in English you still pronounce "Co Rd" as "County Road"?
