35 days in Japan in Sept-October 2024 [First Timers & Honeymoon]

Hey everyone! My wife and I are travelling to Japan for our first time and our honeymoon, and will be spending a little bit over a month from Sept 18th 🙂 We're super excited and can't wait to experience Japan, and don't want to miss too much 😊

I wanted your excellent help with sense-checking the itinerary! We want to take our time but also see most important spots as it's our first time. We're also super cool with checking off the beaten track spots. A bit about us: We're into history, sports, nature/hikes, relaxation, art and theme parks + of course massive foodies. We are planning to travel by train, bus & fly if necessary.

Our 35-day itinerary:

  • Tokyo (5 days), with day trips to Nikko & Kamakura
  • Kyoto (4 days), with day trips to Nara & Uji
  • Osaka (3 days), with day trips to Totsukawa area (is that even feasible?) & Himeji
  • Wakayama (2 days) to explore the National Park / Kumano Kodo
  • Okayama (2 days) to explore Naoshima Art Island
  • Hiroshima / Matsuyama (3 days)
  • Kanazawa & Takayama (3 days)
  • Okinawa (4 days)
  • Mt Fuji / Hakonen (3 days)
  • Tokyo (6 days)

What do you think of this itinerary? Is there anything we're missing we should visit? Anything we should replace or consider?
