I'm 28, living in Canada with my 31yr old Japanese girlfriend, and we're thinking about moving to Japan within the next 1-3 years. I have a stable job here, and I have a very good saving bag with me, of which i'm ok using 20-30k CAD during the first year of the move if required (could do more depending on the struggle). Note that my partner has a nurse license in Japan, meaning she would probably easily get a job as soon as we get there.
As for me, I’d probably start by teaching English or French (native level in both) while I continue learning japanese until I reach a good level, and then transitioning back in the finance field, or any other opportunities I could find.
My brain works in a funny way, where I really like to plan, organize, think a lot, and have a dozen of back up plans. So by nature, I'm just a bit worried about leaving the security we have in Canada (i'm a senior financial analyst at the fed government here), so that makes it hard to make a decision.
On the other side, I know for a fact that if I don't make the move, I will end up regretting it later.
Also, waiting longer than the 1-3 years timeframe isn't really an option. We would like to start a family eventually and gf is already 31, so i would like to settle down somewhere first.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice?
How well did you plan? did you just say fck it let's try?
Is that really as risky as I make it seem?
How did you make the final decision?
Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated!
