Fourth trip to Japan. Average 23 days. Exploring Hokkaido. Flying to Sapporro, renting car to see national parks, then taking JR to Shin-Hakodate, then shinkansen to Tokyo. Looking for tips on places to stop for a day or two each between Hakodate and Tokyo with easy access from train. Arigato.

Not interested in theme parks, clubbing, or onsen. Interested in traditional culture and history, great food (traditional or contemporary), locally made beer or spirits, scenic beauty, hiking trails, contemporary and traditional art and music (I spent four days on Naoshima and Teshima last time!). [By "average 23 days" I mean that's the average length of my trips].
