So I’m a first year ALT, and on the side I teach private lessons for some extra cash. I currently only have one student, a middle aged woman. I teach her one hour a week. Somewhat recently, she also set up lessons for her college aged son, so that will be starting soon as well. She keeps sending me messages about the family, their doings, travel pictures etc, and then usually invites me out to a cafe or restaurant independent of the lesson (so far, the lessons are all online anyway). This feels a little weird to me, but maybe it’s a cultural thing im not accustomed to? When she invites me out, she usually mentions that her middle school aged daughter will be there as well. It just seems odd.
