Advice on going to Japan

I’m planning on moving to Tokyo from England late next year for 8 months as an exchange student and I feel like I’m going to go into it blind so I have a few questions

1. Did I make the right choice going through the winter and into the spring or is it not that interesting

2. Are there areas of Tokyo that I should avoid

3. Is there a dress code in the schools

4. Is it expensive

5. Would the teachers give me some leeway for not knowing much written Japanese

6. What are the people like

7. How is the public transport

8. How often are there earthquakes and are they bad

9.will it be easy for me to make friends

1. Will it be difficult to communicate to my family back in England
