How bad is traffic from Onna to the ferry terminal in Naha?

Edit: Seems like everyone is suggesting staying in Naha for the days we want to take the ferry, because traffic is bad in the mornings. Thanks everyone!

We are trying to figure out where to stay for our trip to Okinawa in October. We wanted to relax at the beach after doing the typical tourist things in Japan mainland (Tokyo, Kyoto etc.. )

After reading through all the posts, we thought about staying in Onna, because it was recommended so often. We also read that traffic can become pretty bad around Naha. We are considering doing some day trips to Zamami etc. too. So we wanted to understand if we should stay in Onna for the whole time and drive to Naha.. or stay in Naha for a couple days and then change hotels to Onna/Nago etc.

Does anyone have experience with driving from Onna to the Ferry Terminal in the morning? As well as experience with parking at the ferry terminal. Google showed some parking but reviews said they are filling up quickly. Just wanted to know if it’s a 45-60 minute drive as Google is saying or more like 2 hours.

Thank you in advance. Hope this question wasn’t asked before, couldn’t find it via search.
