Sharehouse/Apartment Cancellation Fees

Hi, currently looking into applying for a sharehouse as I am about to start graduate studies in Tokyo. I came across a website that showcases listings for various sharehouse vacancies. Finding it difficult to secure a Vacancy due to the speed in which the properties are occupied, I ramped up on registering to any properties that seemed to fit my need. I recently fancied one vacancy and proceeded to fill out the application form along with providing sensitive information, as I saw that there is a 3-4day screening process, so might as well reserve it, right?

Now upon further research, I realized that the property in question had a few issues based on the reviews and I now am considering forgoing the reservation, but upon checking, I saw that there is such a thing as a cancellation fee. Take note that I have not provided any payment options, nor have I signed any binding document, or even a contract agreeing to lease terms, duration, payment, etc. but I did provide info like passport photo, and the school that i'll be entering.

Question is:
1. will there be any legal repercussions against me for not paying the cancellation fee?
2. if none, any dangers that I should be wary of from walkiing away from this?

Any type of advise would help, thanks!
