I’m interested in teaching in Japan and was considering work at an international school. I know that international schools require a bachelors degree, a teaching certificate and at least 1-2yrs of teaching experience for the minimum qualifications. That said I was curious to know if teaching at an Eikaiwa for a couple of years would serve as valid experience. I know that most if not all international schools, from what I’ve heard, don’t accept the JET program as teaching experience, mostly because you’re a teachers assistant I’ve heard. Therefore I wanted to know if anyone knew if working at an Eikaiwa also didn’t count or did count as relevant teaching experience. I realize that international schools are really competitive and even if an Eikaiwa works I might not be selected because of that, but for now I’m just curious. Thank you for any information and advice!
TLDR: Do Eikaiwas count as teaching experience when applying to work at an international school?
