I want to apply to a Master’s in Computer Science in Japan and need advice. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree, and my overall grade is 65%. Converting that to GPA, it’s 2.3 out of 4. I’m concerned that my GPA might be too low for admission. Is my GPA a significant factor for universities in Japan, or are there other factors that they consider more important?
I’m looking for a program that's fully taught in English, as my Japanese is only at an N4 level. I expect to be at N2 level by October 2025, but I know that N2 isn’t sufficient. For the time being, during the two years in Japan, I plan to do everything I can to achieve N1. Does anyone have recommendations for universities that offer English programs in this field?
My goal is not only to study but also to live in Japan. After completing the two-year program, I plan to continue working and living there. I’m from Egypt and have over a year of experience in software engineering. I know that having just over a year of experience isn’t a lot, but I’m mentioning it. I currently have about $10,000 saved, but by the time I move to Japan, I might have around $15,000. I’ve read that tuition could be around $3,500 per year with the current exchange rate. Will the amount of money I have in my bank account be a significant factor when applying?
I plan to continue working with my current remote company while studying in Japan, with an expected income of around 150,000 yen per month, and a possibility of a raise once I move. Do you think that earning this amount would be sufficient if I live moderately and manage to save a little, even if it’s around 10,000 yen a month? Will this be feasible?
Additionally, I’m interested in hearing from people who applied to Master’s programs in Japan without scholarships. What was your experience? How was the process, and how did you manage your finances and living arrangements?
After finishing my Master’s, how long will I have my visa after getting my degree? Is there a grace period to search for a job, or do I need to find one immediately after graduation?
I’m really sorry for making my message this long, and thank you for reading and helping.
