Advice for learning the language

Hello to everyone. I’d like to start studying Japanese but where I live there aren’t any kind of courses that teach the language so I will surely be studying it by myself. For this particular reason, I’d like to ask if anyone who studied Japanese by themselves has any kind of advice about the way the studied it, the path they followed to learn it, the material they used and how they keep the language trained each day.
Thanks a lot in advance for every piece of advice I might get from you guys.
Have a nice day (or afternoon or evening)

  1. Consistency is going to help you more than anything else. Even if you spend an hour a day, that will add up in the long run. It may be slow going, but you’ll go.

Don’t stress on finding the BEST or PERFECT resource. No such thing exists. Find a few reliable resources which are good for you and how you study.

Set SMART goals (look up “SMART goals”). Having a well-defined, concrete plan is going to be very helpful with tracking growth and progress. In other words “I want to take one JLPT test a year, from N5 to N1, over the next 5 years” is very doable goal and much less nebulous than “I want to be fluent.”

Find motivation. Your motivation might change as you go on and evolve as a person. “I want to watch anime without subtitles” can very well become “I want to be a translator.” Both are valid if it keeps you going.

  2. Although I am not fluent in japanese, I highly suggest learning hiragana and katakana! I suggest tofugo! Good luck

  3. I still am studying Japanese in the early stages. I just want to say the internet connects us like how we’re communicating now. You can even get online teachers these days. I have a teacher on italki. There are also online courses where you can communicate with peers doing the same thing.

  4. My advice is to balance out reading and listening. I sorta regret not doing that. So I hope you take my advice if you’re willing to do listening and reading the language
