Question regarding a work visa and taking a break.

I hold a work visa (Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services) and currently working in Tokyo, that is valid until 2027. I’m considering quitting my job to take a break and figure some things out, potentially spending a few months to a year abroad. This means I would be unemployed for a while.

  1. Eligibility to Stay/Return to Japan: Will I still be eligible to stay in Japan or leave and then come back during this period of unemployment?
  2. Unemployment on a Work Visa: Is there a specific rule on how long I can remain unemployed while holding a work visa? Will it be sufficient to continue paying my taxes and health insurance during this time?
  3. Switching to a New Job: If I decide to return to work at another company, what procedures would I need to follow?
