Am I doing some wrong calculations if someone says Jr Pass is not worth in this case?
Calculation and prices based on japan-guide.com :
Tokyo-Kyoto 13 000 JPY
Kyoto-Nara 1 500 JPY
Nara- Osaka 500 JPY
Osaka- Hiroshima 10 000 JPY
Here we want to go to Myiajima which is included in JR Pass or based on website, ticket is 500 JPY.
And in the end we need to back to Tokyo so as there isnt directly trains between Hiroshima and Tokyo ( is it?) we choose via Osaka:
Hiroshima- Osaka 10 000 JPY
And last one Osaka-Tokyo 14 000 JPY
All sums up is 49 000 JPY (without 500 JPY to Miyajima ticket)
I made also the same simulation on jrpass.com website and it shows 52 480 JPY to all travels as above.
JR pass is 50 000 for a person for 7 days.
We have plan for exactly 7 days for Kyoto/Nara/Osaka/Hiroshima, on last day of it we want to go back to Tokyo and then 3 days in Tokio but on 72h metro ticket. JR pass will be a gone already.
Is it really not worth of buying this Pass?
Kansai+Hiroshima is kinda too short (5 days) but perhaps it is worth just after travel to and from Hiroshima. So we could activate it on our 3rd day in Kyoto and use it to travel to Nara/Osaka/Hiroshima and go back to Osaka on pass and buy single ticket to Tokyo.
But when we add costs of shinkansens from Tokyo to Kyoto and go back from Osaka to Tokyo high price of JR Pass is similar to all sums.
I know many of you would say that we should maybe skip some City and focus more on Kyoto for example but we really want to explore as much as we can during our trip in Japan, propably we won’t go there again in few years due to our another plans so those stops are really important to us 🙂
There isnt big difference in prices of single tickets and JR Pass.
We would like to avoid domestic flights and focus on shinksansen travel instead so please do not advice to take a flight, kindly ask to focus on trains and should we buy pass or single tickets?
My head is blowing up since I started making of itinerary… but i am sooo soooo excited!!
