Document verification for one name holder

Hi, I’m constantly facing issues on validating my name in Japan. I only have one word name, and they’d split my name to: (first name) Meli (last name) Ssa, where in my residence card it only says Melissa. I’m getting instant rejections due to name not matching issue, latest one on paypay ID verification.

It frustrates me a lot, wondering if someone here had similar issue. I know it’s not a common problem and might not get any responses 😅. But thanks in advance!

  1. That sounds super frustrating. A friend of mine once told me that their company’s HR would enter “NLN” in the surname field for “no last name”—I wonder if some places would recognize that?

  2. Are you from Iceland? I’ve never heard of anyone other than Icelanders who don’t have a last name. Genuinely curious !

  3. I had the same problem! I called customer service and they said I needed to verify my identity with a selfie. So I did and it worked!
