i feel like there are some common ones, like yamanote has the crazies, chuo attracts 人身事故, etc but what are some other ones yall can think of? whether they're generally accepted or just your observations–i'm curious
Saikyo line is well known for chikan. People I ask seem to agree with it, including my wife who said she and her friends would sometimes be molested on it when they were at school.
I was told by someone who worked in JR years ago that the Yokohama Line was the most barfed in train line, cause the distance between stations was rather long and after lots of drinking some people couldn’t make it to the next stop. I don’t have first hand experience though.
Also the outbound Keihin Tohoku Line at night smells like booze all the time cause it picks up a ton of salaryman at Shinbashi on the way down to Kawasaki. I have first hand experience.
Now do Keikyu.
All the sexy, kind, amazing people ride the [insert name of my nearest train line]
Tozai line for east end boys and west end girls
Tozai is crowded especially from Toyocho to Nakano (the other side is ok, at least for me)
Not quite the same but a marketing person once told me that IT/engineering companies often advertise on the trains between Shinagawa and Yokohama because the route has a lot of engineers commuting on it (live in Kanagawa/work in Tokyo). No idea if it’s true or not
Yamanoto line is called the ‘nanpa’ line because it goes through all the major ‘nanpa hubs’ like Shibuya, Jarajuku, Shinkuju, and Ikebukuro.
My friend calls “Odakyu” “Oh-fuck-you” because, well… if you ever had the displeasure of riding it regularly, you’ll know… 🫠
From my observations, the people on the Toyoko sen are gambatteru. Working hard to achieve a good life for their future. Inokashira people are cool and somewhat just existing…not really trying that hard or trying to be cool. Odakyu is full of salarymen and is a total grind. I live next to it now and I call the whistling of the train cars, “Ghosts of the Odakyu”
