Quite interesting, how this law technicality works!
>Japan, like many other nations, does not recognize the current Taliban government of Afghanistan, which seized control of the country in 2021. This means that the girl was born in Japan during a period when, in the eyes of the Japanese government, her parents are stateless and have no nationality. Under Japan’s Nationality Law, a child born in such a situation is considered to have Japanese nationality.

damn. now I need to find a way to make myself stateless and someone to impregnate
Afghani’s have built an incredibly advanced civilization, wonderful tourist destination and safe country with protections for women, children and vulnerable groups. Japan needs more of this!
This is an interesting take on citizenship. Usually even if a new government is not recognized, the citzens of the country do not lose citizenship.
However, there are reports that some Taiwanese people have been able to get naturalized into Japanese citizenship without giving up their original citizenship because Japan does not recognize Taiwan as a country.
It will be interesting to see if other courts will follow the example of the Nagoya court and if this will also be extended to other countries Japan does not recognize.

They’re happy to take babies because they can be taught Japanese manners, language and culture. The older ones, not so much.
Kurds – living in Japan : how to become stateless now ?
Welp. He’s Asian at least.
It’s a bit depressing that this is somewhat international news.
“BREAKING: Baby born to Afghani refugees in Canada granted Canadian citizenship.”
“…The parents might even be allowed to stay in Canada…”
Oh now I want to be stateless!
That little dude gonna be harassed and bullied by Japanese now instead of Taliban.
Sagara Sousuke will walk among us soon
Hallelujah!
This news brightens my day.
Oof Japan is screwed. Now NGOs can ship millions of new “Japanese” over
Ruh roh
Baby won the lottery Japan is way better to live in
Great ! Now anybody recognized as a „stateless refugee“ can get a fucking citizenship shoved up their ass while I have another 5 years of paying taxes and a fuckload of paperwork to look forward to
Bring third world, become third world. Japanese culture is going to be ruined soon. Thanks to the bunch of Americans moving there and now refugees. Look at how Canada is turning out
Lol
Awesome.
Cool. I hope the baby is doing well.
I was wrong about Japan citizenship law.
Eat a rock, America
Oh FFS STOP THE BOAT
In this thread: salty foreigners in Japan complaining about Japan allowing foreigners into Japan.
Such a joke…. Japan will have the same problems like Germany or Europe..
