Hey everyone,
I am currently travelling through japan for 5 weeks and want to visit Yakushima during my trip. I am wondering though if i should directly fly to Yakushima from Osaka or go by ferry from Kagoshima and explore Kyushu on the way.
I will continue my travel afterwards from Fukuoka, so that is already on the list.
Does anyone have other Tipps to visit in Kyushu and how long to stay or if it is more worth it to stay a bit longer in the Honshu region in general?
Another option in my eyes would also be to visit Shikoku, might that be the better option before flying to Yakushima from Osaka?
I started in Kyoto went to nagano, kanazawa, will visit kyoto, osaka and koya san soon, but afterwards i am a bit lost where to go or what to see.
Any tipps would be highly appreciated

There’s a lot to do and see in Kyushu. If you can fly directly to Yakushima and then take the ferry back to Kagoshima and then work your way up to Fukuoka, that might work best. It depends on how much time you want to put into it as to what you can see and do though, and a lot of the interesting stuff is rural so being able to drive is very helpful. It depends on the sorts of things you want to see/do though.
Outside of the cities (which besides Matsuyama, are not in and of themselves that exciting), you will definitely need a car in Shikoku. It is very regional. I think Kyushu is more interesting overall would put Shikoku fairly low on the priority list.
