Hi all, would love some feedback on the itinerary below. Unfortunately we are limited to about a week due to the kids' winter holidays and weird school schedules. I think in particular whether the travel to Kawaguchiko is too excessive and if it would be better to stay in Hakone instead (and whether it is excessively crowded in those places during the holiday period).
I'd also really like to take the kids to Nara Deer Park but can't figure out where to fit it in.
Day 1 Dec 29:
- Arrive in HND at 530 PM
- Check in Conrad Tokyo – dinner nearby or at the hotel (was thinking Gonpachi Nishiazabu or maybe a Denny's just for kicks)
Day 2 Dec 30:
- Akihabara shopping/game centers
- Asakusa – Sensoji temple, ninja cafe,
- Tokyo Skytree sunset/dinner
Day 3 Dec 31:
- Nakano broadway shopping
- Check out from hotel
- Shinkansen to Osaka (2-3h travel)
- Check in to St Regis Osaka
- Dotonbori at night
Day 4 Jan 1:
- Bus to Nijigen no mori (Awaji Island) – All day (or is it better to just rent a car?)
- Dinner on Awaji Island if time
Day 5 Jan 2:
- Train to Mishima, then bus to Kawaguchiko OR Train to Odawara/Hakone
- Stay at either Fufu Kawaguchiko or Yamanochaya in Hakone
- Relax at onsen/ryokan dinner
Day 6 Jan 3:
- Day trip to Mt Fuji area/Lake Kawaguchiko
- Ice caves at Aokigahara tour
- Dinner at ryokan (although since one of our kids is picky, we were hoping to pick up dinner around the lake? Would anything be open?)
Day 7 Jan 4:
- Travel back to Tokyo
- Hotel Toranomon Hills
- Odaiba to see the gundam statue and shop or visit shibuya
Day 8 Jan 5:
- Leave out of NRT
