Recommendations for travelling to Japan for photography in December

I’m thinking of flying into Tokyo first week of December for two weeks. I’d like to use the time to take pictures of scenic places as well as night life. But I would also like to travel around Japan (Osaka/Kobe/Kyoto area – not final!). Any recommendations / suggestions as to where to go during winter months?
