Jump in LDR Cholesterol after moving to Japan

I moved to Japan from the US a few years ago, and my LDL cholesterol has significantly increased every year I’ve been here. I consider myself a fairly active and healthy young person in my 20s. Other than high cholesterol, all my other health check results came out in the healthy range.

I know part of this is genetics and high cholesterol runs in my family, but I am mainly concerned because it’s been increasing every year despite upping the amount I exercise and monitoring my diet more.

Has anyone else had the same issue since coming to Japan? I’m wondering if there’s any specific foods/cooking oils/etc. used here that I should specifically avoid, or any other suprising contributors.

Any advice appreciated!
